Two Muslims arrested for illegally smuggling and slaughtering cows

Case Summary
In Budaun, Uttar Pradesh, the police have arrested two Muslims for allegedly smuggling and slaughtering cows. Dead remains of cows were found in a farm, and both the accused have family relations with the owner of the farm. Hindu organisations had exposed the slaughter of cows in the forest of Murav Gautia village. The police registered a case against the smugglers and a police constable who was involved in the smuggling. The police arrested two Muslims named Mukhtiyar and Jarif, but the responsible people, like the farm owner, do not have the answer to the question of who slaughtered the animal and who are the suppliers of the meat. The police have arrested the accused. However, they have found no beef or weapons used in slaughtering.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as Undecided. If more details emerge, it would be added to the Hate Crime Database.
