Case Summary
Firozabad police encountered a cow slaughter gang, comprising three Muslim men, after receiving information from an informer. The police team surrounded the gang at Lalpur Mandi Ground in the Rasulpur police station area, where they planned to slaughter a cow. When the police moved in, the gang members opened fire on the officers. In response, the police fired back, injuring all three accused in their legs. The injured suspects were identified as Amir, Shamshad, and Faheem Qureshi, all residents of different areas within Firozabad. The police team, led by Inspectors Anuj Kumar of Rasulpur and Sanjeev Kumar Dubey of Ramgarh, carried out the operation.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
