Cow smugglers Tarif and Jafru arrested after 5 km chase, canter carrying 24 cattle, including 8 dead and 16 alive cows seized

Case Summary
Haryana's Nuh police arrested two Cow smugglers Tarif and Jafru after a 5-kilometre chase. To evade the police, the cattle smugglers drove a punctured canter truck for nearly 5 kilometres on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The Nuh police pursued them and arrested the two smugglers. The canter was carrying a total of 24 cattle, including 8 dead and 16 alive cows. The police rescued the surviving cows and sent them to a gaushala (cow shelter). An FIR has been registered at the Ferozepur Jhirka police station against three individuals, including the unidentified owner of the vehicle. The arrested suspects have been identified as Tarif from Salaheri village and Jafru from Piparoli village in Nuh district. According to the police, a CIA (Crime Investigation Agency) team from Ferozepur Jhirka was conducting night patrols on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway on Wednesday. The police set up barricades and waited for the smugglers. About 15 minutes later, the canter truck carrying the cattle appeared. When the police signalled to stop, the suspects accelerated and broke through the barricades. Sub-Inspector Ram Kumar stated that during the chase, the canter's front tyre got punctured. However, the driver continued driving at high speed for nearly 5 kilometres on the metal rim. The police persisted in their pursuit and eventually managed to capture two of the suspects.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
