Hindu woman chopped into six pieces by a Muslim man and his family
Case Summary
In Jodhpur, a 50-year-old Hindu woman named Anita Chaudhary was killed and her body was chopped into six pieces by a man named Ghulamuddin. Her body was buried at the residence of Ghulamuddin. Anita was reported missing on October 27 by her husband, Manmohan Chaudhary, after she failed to return home from her beauty parlour, Sunshine Beauty Parlour, in Sardarpura. According to police records, Anita left her shop and was last seen in a taxi driven by Mukesh Tanwar. She was going to Ghulamuddin's house. On 30th October 2024, Ghulamuddin’s wife told the authorities the grim location of Anita’s remains behind their house. The police arrived at the scene and discovered Anita's body. Anita's body was buried in a shallow grave, and her body was severely mutilated. Police investigation found that the body had been dismembered and buried in two plastic bags. Ghulamuddin's wife informed the police that she had been staying with her sister for three days and was unaware of her husband’s actions until she returned home. After her arrival, Ghulamuddin confessed to her about killing Anita and burying her remains in the backyard. The police found Anita’s dismembered body parts, wrapped in plastic bags. Her head was severed, so were the limbs and hands; the body was recovered in six separate pieces and stuffed in different bags. Manmohan Chaudhary, the husband of the deceased, told the police that Sunita, a close friend, had contacted Manmohan on several occasions, warning that Tayyab Ansari, another acquaintance of Anita, might harm her. These calls have brought another Muslim man, named Tayyab Ansari, as a potential suspect in the murder case of Anita. Apart from Tayyab and Ghulamuddin, even Ghulamuddin's wife was under prime suspicion of being involved in the murder of Anita Chaudhary. The police and family believed that Ghulamuddin was not capable of committing this crime alone. According to the police, Ghulamuddin faced mounting gambling debts due to which he targeted Anita with intentions of robbery, having allegedly threatened her in the past. He operated a tailoring shop across from Anita’s beauty parlour. He saw Anita always with jewellery and wanted to rob her. He invited Anita to his house and mixed medicines in her drink, and she fell unconscious. After this, he wanted to make obscene videos of her to blackmail her. They wanted to settle a debt of 10.2 lakhs by selling Anita's jewellery. The police investigations also revealed that Ghulamuddin’s wife, Abida, was an accomplice in Anita’s murder. Abida admitted to knowing about the conspiracy and told the police that Anita was given a drink mixed with medicine, after which she fell unconscious. Anita was then killed, and her body was cut into 6 parts using a meat cleaver before being buried. The accused Ghulamuddin Gulamuddin was arrested in Mumbai and brought to Jodhpur on 8 November 2024. Jodhpur DCP (West) Rajarshi Raj Verma said that Ghulamuddin fled to Mumbai via Ahmedabad after the murder. He planned to catch a train to Bihar and then flee to Nepal from there. Ghulamuddin switched on his mobile phone to book a train ticket to Bihar from Mumbai. After this, the police came to know of his location in Mumbai. The police also recovered a fake ID card of his; the name on that card was 'Gaffar'.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In the case of Anita Chaudhary’s murder in Jodhpur, the available evidence points strongly toward motives of financial gain, robbery, and personal criminal intent, rather than any direct or explicit religious motive. Police investigations reveal that the prime accused, Ghulamuddin, was under heavy gambling debt and sought to target Anita because she often wore jewellery. His plan, as reconstructed by investigators, was to drug her, rob her valuables, and even blackmail her with obscene recordings. This indicates a material and opportunistic motive. Although both the prime accused and secondary suspects (Abida, Tayyab Ansari) are Muslims and the victim is a Hindu woman, no explicit signs have emerged in the FIR, charges, or testimonies that the murder was carried out due to religious animosity or as part of a broader pattern of anti-Hindu targeting. The brutality of the crime, including the dismemberment of Anita’s body, has understandably raised suspicions and fears of a communal angle among the family and community. However, in the absence of direct proof — such as hate speech, religiously framed threats, or evidence showing that Anita was targeted because she was Hindu — the religious motivation cannot be firmly established at this stage. Therefore, this incident is presently being placed in the “Undecided” database in the Hinduphobia Tracker. If future investigations uncover evidence that religion was indeed a factor, the case can then be reclassified accordingly.
