Hindu community targeted as IAS officer makes vulgar, inflammatory comments about Brahmin daughters at public gathering
Case Summary
An Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer sparked massive outrage in Bhopal after making indecent and derogatory remarks targeting the Hindu community, specifically Brahmins and their daughters, during a public programme at Ambedkar Maidan on 23 November 2025. Santosh Verma, the newly elected provincial president of Anusuchit Jati Evam Janjati Adhikari Evam Karmachari Sangh (AJAKS), stated that reservations should continue “until a Brahmin gives his daughter to my son or has a relationship with him,” a comment that was recorded on video and widely circulated online. Hindu organisations sharply criticised the IAS officer’s remarks, describing them as degrading, inflammatory, and deeply insulting to Brahmin daughters. Pushpendra Mishra, state president of the All India Brahmin Samaj, demanded immediate registration of an FIR, stating that the officer’s remarks were indecent, objectionable, and deeply hurtful to the Brahmin community. He said that failure to lodge a criminal case would lead to a statewide protest. Mishra also noted that such comments go against the All India Services Conduct Rules, especially at a time when government schemes like Ladli Laxmi, Ladli Behna, and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao focus on the dignity and protection of girls. Verma’s past controversies resurfaced following the latest uproar. Originally an officer of the Madhya Pradesh State Administrative Service, he had earlier been accused of forging court orders and faking the signature of a CBI judge to claim relief in cases pending against him. He was arrested in Indore after a judge filed a complaint reporting that Verma forged two court orders in a case involving charges of criminal intimidation of a woman. The forged documents were used to obtain his promotion to the Indian Administrative Service. He has also faced allegations in two separate exploitation cases in which women accused him of promising marriage and later deceiving or intimidating them. The latest incident intensified scrutiny of Verma’s conduct and revived public concern about his record.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This incident has been added to the Undecided category because, although the IAS officer’s remarks were deeply insulting to Brahmins and specifically targeted Brahmin daughters, the case does not yet meet the threshold required to classify it conclusively as a hate crime within the tracker. His comments were derogatory, inflammatory, and directed at Brahmin women, but the available information does not show a clear intent to incite violence, coerce, or mobilise targeted hostility against them in a way that fits the tracker’s defined categories. The remarks reflect prejudice and are socially harmful, yet their nature and context require further assessment before they can be placed under a specific hate crime classification. Until more evidence emerges indicating organised, targeted, or actionable harm rooted in anti-Hindu animosity, the case remains in the Undecided database.
