Case Summary

A cow was slaughtered in village Tulaipur, under the Khutar police station area of Shahjahanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, in the agricultural field of Ram Vinod Shukla. The brutal incident occurred on the night of 10 November 2025 and came to light after local residents alerted members of the Hindu Yuva Sangathan Uttar Pradesh about the presence of cow carcass remains near the Tulaipur–Bela canal. According to Anvendra Mishra, president of the Hindu Yuva Sangathan Uttar Pradesh, he received information late that night regarding the slaughter. He, along with Navneet Mishra and other local activists, rushed to the spot and discovered a horrific scene; the severed head, skin, legs, and bones of a cow were found scattered across the field, with blood spread throughout the area. A plastic rope, suspected to have been used during the act, was also recovered nearby. The discovery triggered outrage among villagers, who demanded strict action against those responsible. Following a written complaint, the Khutar police registered a case late that night and initiated an investigation. Under the direction of Station House Officer Subhash Yadav, police teams began combing the surrounding areas to trace the culprits. Acting on intelligence inputs, the police conducted a late-night checking operation near the canal 2 days after the incident, during which they encountered cow slaughterers attempting to flee. During the confrontation, one of the accused opened fire at the police. The police retaliated, and in the exchange, one accused was shot in the leg and arrested, while his accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness. The injured was identified as Mujiburrahman alias Neta (35), a resident of Jadampur Kala. From his possession, the police recovered a country-made pistol, live cartridges, and tools used for animal slaughter. During interrogation, Mujiburrahman confessed that he, along with his father-in-law Chhote, his brother-in-law Nawab, residents of Kesarpur (Pilibhit), and associates Javed alias Kariya, Jafar, Kamrul, and Bhure Khan, had been involved in cow slaughter. He further admitted that they had also slaughtered a cow near Tulaipur. The injured accused was treated at the Khutar Community Health Centre (CHC) and later referred to the District Hospital. Meanwhile, police launched a manhunt for the absconding accomplices and increased patrolling in the area to prevent further incidents of cow slaughter.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

The cow holds a deeply sacred place in the Hindu faith, symbolising reverence for life and non-violence. Across India, cow slaughter has historically carried strong religious connotations, often perceived by Hindus as a deliberate act of provocation or insult to their faith. In numerous documented incidents, cow smuggling and slaughter by non-Hindu perpetrators have been used not merely for economic gain but also as a tool of religious antagonism — a means to offend Hindu sentiment, challenge cultural identity, or assert dominance in communally sensitive areas. In some historical and contemporary contexts, cow slaughter has been linked to broader patterns of hostility, including cases where Hindus were forcibly fed beef or where temple premises were desecrated through the killing of cows. These actions have been recognised within communal violence studies as emblematic of religious contempt and psychological warfare against Hindu belief systems. Consequently, every such incident naturally raises a suspicion of religiously motivated animosity, particularly when the perpetrator belongs to a non-Hindu community and the act occurs in a Hindu-majority locality. In the present case, from village Tulaipur in Shahjahanpur district, a cow was found slaughtered in the field of Ram Vinod Shukla. The scene described — involving a decapitated carcass, scattered remains, and evidence of deliberate killing — bears resemblance to cases where religious defilement has been intended. However, no direct evidence has yet emerged, even after the arrest of a Muslim man, to establish that the motive in this instance was specifically religious or aimed at insulting Hindu beliefs. Given this absence of corroborative proof regarding intent, the case is being classified under the ‘Undecided’ database for now. Should future investigation or witness testimony confirm that the act was driven by religious hostility or deliberate provocation against Hindu sentiment, the case will be reclassified as a hate crime reflecting targeted Hinduphobic intent.
