A 17-year-old Hindu girl from Biswan, Uttar Pradesh, was found hanging in her home. The victim’s brother stated that a local Muslim man, Mohammad Mehtab, assaulted and murdered her for resisting his advances. He further added that Mehtab persistently harassed the victim. She had grown increasingly reclusive over the past few months, rarely stepping out of the house. On Friday morning, 7th November 2025, her brother left for work as usual, leaving her at home with her young niece. Sometime that afternoon, Mehtab and four other men forced their way into the house. They overpowered the two girls, holding them captive inside. The men attempted to sexually assault her. When she resisted and fought back, they beat her severely and hanged her from a ceiling fan with a noose. Before fleeing, they threatened her niece, warning that if she told the police, they would kill the entire family. Neighbours rushed to the house after hearing screams, but the attackers had already escaped. The girl’s body was found hanging, and her brother returned later to the devastating scene. That night, he filed a complaint at the Biswan police station. The police registered a case of murder against Mehtab and four unidentified men. A post-mortem examination confirmed death by hanging.
