A 9-year-old Hindu girl, sent by her grandmother to fetch eggs from a nearby shop in the Kotwali Baraut area, was molested and assaulted by a 35-year-old Muslim man named Shahrukh. Upon her return, the grandmother's gentle probing unravelled the full horror, leaving the family in a state of utter devastation and disbelief. Without wasting a moment, they alerted the authorities, prompting a rapid police response. Officers from Baghpat's Kotwali Baraut station registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Shahrukh under stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for assault and molestation, alongside provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act to address the aggravated nature of the crime against a minor. The accused was apprehended shortly thereafter, taken into custody to face the weight of justice. Baghpat police, recognising the incident's sensitivity, shared updates on the social media platform X, confirming the FIR's gravity and the ongoing medical examination of the victim to document her injuries and provide necessary care.
