Cow slaughtered by two Muslim men in Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh
Case Summary
A cow was slaughtered in Dhankharpur village under Bhawaniganj police station in Siddharthnagar district, Uttar Pradesh. The police investigated the case and arrested two men involved in the crime. Police recovered from their possession the knife, blade, jute rope and axe used in the slaughter, and after completing legal formalities, produced them before the court. The swift action was carried out under Superintendent of Police Dr Abhishek Mahajan’s supervision, with the field operation led by SHO Bhawaniganj Chandan Pandey. The two accused were intercepted near the Allahabad–Bhairawa road on 9 November 2025, and were identified as Shamshad, son of Haitul, and Ikram, son of Mushir, both residents of Dhankharpur. During interrogation, both admitted to the slaughter, and police invoked sections relating to cow slaughter and cow protection, along with additional penal sections against Shamshad.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow occupies an elevated and sacred position in Hindu civilisation, representing purity, non-violence, nourishment, and maternal protection. Its symbolism is inseparable from foundational Hindu values of restraint, compassion, and generosity, and the duty to protect the cow has been understood across centuries as a tangible expression of dharma. Historically, the slaughter of cows by non-Hindu actors has carried direct insult value for Hindu communities, and such acts have repeatedly triggered tension, conflict, and humiliation. There is documented precedent in which cow slaughter has been deployed as a deliberate tactic to provoke Hindus, to breach dietary boundaries, and to degrade temple precincts, demonstrating how violence against the cow often functions as a proxy form of aggression against Hindu identity itself. In this specific case, however, there is at present no clear evidence that the slaughter was conducted with religious hostility or targeted insult as its primary intention. For that reason, this incident is being placed in the Undecided Database of the Hinduphobia Tracker. Should future investigation or further disclosures establish that the act was motivated by religious antagonism or targeted harm against Hindu belief, the case will be re-classified and moved into the Hate Crime Database accordingly.
