Minor Hindu girl lured into relationship and sexually exploited by Muslim man pretending to be Hindu
Case Summary
A minor Hindu girl from Satna, Madhya Pradesh, met a man on Instagram who used the name 'Kashyap'. He was actually Hamid Khan from Rewa. He gained her trust through online conversations, using a fake Hindu identity and then raped her. He recorded videos and photos of the assault and used them to blackmail her. On the night of 5th November 2025, the victim left her home and went to the Satna bus stand. Hamid Khan took her to the railway station, planning to take her away. Her family learned of the situation and arrived at the station. They recovered the victim and caught Hamid Khan briefly. He escaped but left his mobile phone behind. The phone contained the obscene videos and photos. The family went to the GRP and Kolgawan police station that night to file a report, but it was not registered until the next day. On 6th November 2025, Bajrang Dal activists got involved after learning that Hamid Khan had tried to settle the matter through a contact in Rampur Baghelan. They arranged for him to come to Satna and handed him over to the police outside Kolgawan station. Bajrang Dal members stated that Hamid Khan’s mother and aunt were part of the plan. They had changed the victim’s name to 'Rozi Khan' to hide her identity. The police took Hamid Khan into custody and began investigating the evidence on his phone.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the tracker under the primary category- Crimes against women in relationships or other sexual crimes. Within this, the first subcategory selected is- Man pretends to be Hindu. The tertiary category selected is- Name Changed. When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. In some cases, the woman eventually accepts the man’s original religious identity and converts after the man’s identity is revealed. These cases could be argued as cases of religious brainwashing and a result of the pressure a woman feels after getting into a relationship with a man. The woman, it can be argued, also changed her religious identity because of the stigma she believes she might face if she chooses to walk out of a deceptive relationship. However, for the purpose of documenting hate crimes, the cases in this subcategory are limited to those where there is explicit violence aimed at religious conversion against the wishes of the victim (force-feeding beef, blackmailing with intimate videos, rape on refusal to convert, etc), or if the woman herself complains of the man’s religious deception. In such cases, it is established that the deception of the non-Hindu man had a specific aim of religious conversion or targeting of the victim due to her Hindu religious identity, therefore, making it a religiously motivated hate crime. The other subcategory selected in this case is- Brainwashed and/or Groomed. Within this, the tertiary categories selected are- Rape and sexual assault/harassment, Conversion of Minor. In our database, we have not added incidents where women have converted to another religion of their free will and no allegations of forced/involuntary conversion have been made. However, there are certain cases of conversion where the consent itself is a result of the brainwashing or grooming of a minor by the non-Hindu perpetrator trying to victimise a woman for her Hindu religious identity. The phenomenon of grooming points to non-Hindu perpetrators identifying their Hindu victims’ vulnerabilities and exploiting them over months and sometimes years, to extract the supposed ‘consent’ in order to convert their religion. In most cases of grooming, the victims are minors or the grooming started when the victim was a minor. In other cases of grooming, the non-Hindu perpetrator brainwashes and grooms a minor victim to extract their trust and then proceeds to rape them repeatedly with the intent of converting them to their faith. It is pertinent to understand here that when the victim is a minor, the ‘consent’ to convert or enter into a romantic relationship with an adult itself is redundant – addressed by POCSO. While every case of conversion of a minor and incidents of establishing a physical relationship with a minor by an adult is a crime, for the purpose of this database, a case would be considered a hate crime only if there is a distinct religious angle to the grooming. For example, in the UK, if a Hindu minor is targeted by Pakistani grooming gangs, it would be considered a hate crime because the victims are specifically targeted owing to their non-Muslim religious identity with the perpetrators being Muslim. In other cases, if a Hindu minor is brainwashed into entering a physical relationship with the non-Hindu adult perpetrator and the family alleges grooming/brainwashing of the minor to convert her religion, it would form a part of this database. If the victim is a Hindu adult, the case would form a part of this database only if the victim herself says that she was brainwashed/groomed to convert her religion. However, if the victim is deceased (murdered or otherwise), the case would form a part of this database if her family/friends provided testimony that the victim was brainwashed/groomed to convert her religion. Since these crimes have a distinct religious angle where the victim is being targeted owing to her Hindu religious identity, these cases are considered a hate crime. The other category selected here is- Predatory Proselytisation. Under this, the subcategory selected is- Proselytisation by grooming, brainwashing, manipulation and subtle indoctrination. Within this, the tertiary categories selected are- Conversion of minor and Rape and sexual assault/harassment. Religious brainwashing essentially means the often subtle and forcible indoctrination to induce someone to give up their religious beliefs to accept contrasting regimented ideas. Religious grooming or brainwashing also involves propaganda and manipulation. It involves the systematic effort, driven by religious malice and indoctrination, to persuade “non-believers’ to accept allegiance, command, or doctrine to and of a contrasting faith. Cases of such grooming or brainwashing are far more nuanced than direct threats, coercion, inducement and violence. In such cases, it is often seen that there is repeated, subtle and continual manipulation of the victim to induce disaffection towards their own faith and acceptance of the contrasting faith of the perpetrator. While subtle indoctrination is widely acknowledged as predatory, an element which is often understated in such conversions or the attempts of such conversion is the role of loyalty and trust which might develop between the perpetrator and the victim. Fiduciary relationships are often abused to affect such religious conversion. For example, an educator transmitting religious doctrine of a competing faith to a Hindu student. The Hindu student is likely to accept what the teacher is transmitting owing to existence of the fiduciary relationship. The exploitation of the fiduciary relationship to religiously indoctrinate victims would also be included in this category. Since the underlying animosity towards the victim’s faith forms the basis of predatory proselytization, such cases are considered religiously motivated hate crimes. In this case, it is first important to address that the victim was a minor, which meant that the element of consent and a genuine change of conscience were absent from the outset. Minors, because of their young age and lack of emotional maturity, are especially vulnerable to manipulation and coercion. They may not be capable of fully understanding the implications of engaging in a romantic or sexual relationship, whether with someone of the same or another religion. This vulnerability was deliberately exploited by the Muslim perpetrator, who targeted the Hindu victim based on her religious identity. The case clearly reflected the use of coercion and deceit to sexually exploit a Hindu minor, making it a deliberate act of religious hatred and a clear instance of a religiously motivated crime. The accused’s act of posing as a Hindu man and deceiving a Hindu minor into a relationship displayed calculated intent and religious hostility. He knowingly concealed his Muslim identity, understanding that the victim would have rejected his advances had she known the truth. This deception was a methodical attempt to target a Hindu girl based solely on her faith. By misrepresenting himself, the perpetrator violated the victim’s autonomy and her right to make informed choices about relationships in accordance with her beliefs. His identity concealment mirrored a wider pattern in which Hindu women and minor girls are deliberately singled out through deception and coercion for exploitation. The offender’s conduct exposed deep-rooted animosity towards Hindus and their faith, affirming this as a religiously motivated hate crime directed at the Hindu victim and her community. The subsequent sexual exploitation, physical assault and blackmail further reflected the perpetrator’s ingrained hostility towards the victim’s religious identity. Sexual violence in such contexts often serves as a tool of domination and humiliation, not simply as a pursuit of physical desire. The false presentation of a Hindu identity to gain proximity and trust before exploiting the victim revealed that his actions were driven by prejudice rather than personal impulse. This form of deception and sexual exploitation was a targeted attempt to degrade the victim’s dignity and faith, aligning with established indicators of religiously motivated crimes. While the incident involved physical and psychological exploitation, the underlying intent, to mislead and entrap a Hindu girl by feigning a shared faith, shows that the crime was not merely about personal gain or desire. It targeted her specifically as a Hindu, using religious disguise as the tool of deceit. The victim's name was changed by the mother and the aunt of the accused in an attempt to alienate the girl from her ancestral faith and start the process of conversion through subtle indoctrination. Such acts strike at the core of religious trust and dignity. They represent a conscious attempt to violate the sanctity of interfaith boundaries and humiliate the victim’s community by exploiting faith as a means of coercion. Therefore, the case cannot be viewed only as an instance of abuse, but as a hate-driven act rooted in religious animosity and manipulation. Since this case fulfils the parameters of a religiously motivated hate crime, it is being documented in the Hinduphobia Tracker’s hate crime database. Disclaimer: The Hinduphobia Tracker records incidents based on when an event occurred or when the victim's ordeal began. It is important to clarify that none of the media sources covering this case has specified the exact date when the manipulation began. Therefore, for documentation purposes, we have recorded the date based on when the abduction attempt occurred - 5th November 2025.
