A Muslim man poses as Hindu to lure a Hindu woman. Rapes her after spiking her cold drink, force-feeds her beef, holds her hostage for two months

Case Summary
A Hindu woman in Sultanpuri, Delhi, filed a complaint accusing Shoaib Khan, a resident of Muradabad, of feigning to be a Hindu man named Sheenu. The Hindu woman said that Shoaib Khan had repeatedly sexually assaulted her, forced her to consume beef, blackmailed her with her lewd video, and held her hostage for two months while extorting four lakhs from her. The recently divorced woman went to a doctor's clinic where Shoaib, who introduced himself as Sheenu, worked as cleaning staff. He won her trust, provided her with medications, and said he knew attorneys who could assist with her divorce. He took her to Delhi and then brought her to his house, where he gave her a drugged cold drink that caused her to faint for two hours. She was then raped, forcefully fed beef, videotaped, and imprisoned in a room for two months by the accused. Police imprisoned Shoaib Khan based on the victim's complaint.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. In some cases, the woman eventually accepts the man’s original religious identity and converts after the man’s identity is revealed. These cases could be argued as cases of religious brainwashing and a result of the pressure a woman feels after getting into a relationship with a man. The woman, it can be argued, also changed her religious identity because of the stigma she believes she might face if she chooses to walk out of a deceptive relationship. In such cases, it is established that the deception of the non-Hindu man had a specific aim of religious conversion or targeting of the victim due to her Hindu religious identity, therefore, making it a religiously motivated hate crime. In this case, a non-Hindu man concealed his religious identity and pretended to be a Hindu to lure a Hindu woman. Intending to convert the Hindu woman, the Muslim perpetrator forced her to consume beef. Beef has specifically religious significance in Hinduism and therefore, the act of feeding beef is an act of religious desecration done specifically to convert the woman to Islam. Since the religious motive of the crime is evident from the above-stated facts, this case has been documented as a hate crime.
