Hindu priest attacked and injured by masked assailants, ornaments of temple stolen
Case Summary
In Pali district's Bijova village, Rajasthan, a priest was attacked and injured by 10-12 masked assailants at the Nauka Mama temple near the railway line. The incident occurred late at night when the priest, 65-year-old Navaram Dewasi, woke up to the sound of barking dogs. As he stepped into the temple premises, the miscreants assaulted him with sticks and rods, inflicting serious injuries. The attackers stole the priest’s gold flower necklace, weighing 2.5 tolas, and his silver bangles. They also looted the jewellery adorning the temple idol. Navaram, who has been serving at the temple for 40 years, described the sudden attack and theft. Villagers rushed to the spot upon learning of the incident and took the injured priest to Rani Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to Bangar Hospital in Pali. The police launched an investigation into the attack and theft.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The crime involved the attack on a Hindu priest, Navaram Dewasi, inside the Nauka Mama temple, making it a significant incident given its religious context. The priest, a respected religious figure who had served the temple for decades, was brutally assaulted, and sacred temple ornaments were stolen. While the setting and the victim's identity point to potential religious motivations, the specific intentions behind the crime remain unclear due to a lack of detailed information about the perpetrators and their motives. Given the uncertainty surrounding whether the act was driven by religious hatred or targeted hostility toward the Hindu faith or its religious figures, the case has been categorized as "undecided." However, if additional details emerge establishing a clear religious bias or intent behind the crime, it will be reevaluated and, if appropriate, added to the tracker.
