Two Muslim men attempt to abduct 8-year-old Hindu girl

Case Summary
On January 3, in Dulhingaj, Gaya, Bihar, locals apprehended a man attempting to kidnap an 8-year-old Hindu girl in broad daylight. The man, identified as Mohammed Mujahib Sheikh, along with an accomplice, tried to abduct the minor while she was on her way to a local shop. An elderly woman intervened and rescued the girl, thwarting the kidnapping attempt. Alert residents quickly gathered, caught Mohammed, and handed him over to the Gaya police after thrashing him. His accomplice managed to escape. Mohammed, a resident of Jaipur, Rajasthan, was charged with abduction, and the girl was safely reunited with her family. Locals revealed that the area had been troubled by drug-using youths, often leading to confrontations with residents. Despite repeated warnings, the youths continued frequenting the locality. On the day of the incident, two of them attempted to lure the girl, leading to the failed abduction.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
Since the victim in this case is a minor, there is a strong suspicion of grooming involved. Grooming is a phenomenon where Muslim men specifically target minor non-Muslim girls for sexual exploitation, abuse and rape. Though the report specifies that the investigation into the case revealed that the perpetrator tried to kidnap the minor girl, there is no specific evidence of a pattern of victimisation of the Hindu minor by the perpetrator. Further, there is no indication from the parents of the minor that she was targeted for her religious identity. For these reasons, this case is being added as 'undecided'. It would be added to the hate crime database if more information emerges.
