Minor Hindu girl abducted by Muslim man in Kashipur, Uttarakhand
Case Summary
Faizan Naseer lured a 17-year-old Hindu girl from Kashipur and took her away, prompting a 12-day manhunt by Uttarakhand Police across multiple states, covering about 5000 km. The girl's father, an ITI worker, filed a missing complaint on December 23 after she was not found at her home on December 22. Investigations revealed that Faizan, a resident of Mulgaon in Kupwara, had allegedly trapped the minor in a relationship and taken her to various locations. The police tracked them to Kashmir, Chandigarh, Delhi, Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, and Hyderabad, using surveillance and local intelligence. On January 4, the police successfully arrested Faizan on Chhajarsi Road in Noida and safely recovered the girl. After a medical examination, a case was filed against Faizan under the POCSO Act, and he was sent to jail.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
Since the victim in this case is a minor, there is a strong suspicion of grooming involved. Grooming is a phenomenon where Muslim men specifically target minor non-Muslim girls for sexual exploitation, abuse and rape. Though the report specifies that the investigation into the case revealed that the perpetrator lured away the minor girl, there is no specific evidence of a pattern of victimisation of the Hindu minor by the perpetrator. Further, there is no indication from the parents of the minor that she was targeted for her religious identity. For these reasons, this case is being added as 'undecided'. It would be added to the hate crime database if more information emerges.
