18 apprehended by police while smuggling 108 cattle

Case Summary
Police in Assam’s Nagaon district apprehended 18 individuals involved in cattle smuggling in the Kachua area of Kampur. Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted nine pickup trucks transporting 108 cattle without valid documentation. The suspects were attempting to smuggle the cattle from Kachua to Meghalaya via West Karbi Anglong. During the operation, all 108 cattle were rescued and transferred to a rescue centre for further examination. The police initiated an investigation to uncover additional details about the smuggling network.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred and worshipped in Hinduism. It has also been historically used to persecute Hindus. There have been several instances where the cow has been slaughtered as a deliberate insult to the Hindu faith, Hindus have been force-fed beef for the purpose of forced religious conversion and cows have been slaughtered and thrown in temples for the deliberate desecration of the Hindu faith and its representations. For that reason, there is a strong suspicion that this case in and of itself could be driven by religious animosity and hostility. However, it is also possible that this is a petty crime driven by financial motivations and not religious. For that reason, this case is being added to the undecided database.
