Skeletons of 40 cows unearthed in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh

Case Summary
In Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh, skeletons of about 40 cows were found near PMV Polytechnic on the Mathura-Vrindavan road. This discovery caused outrage among local residents and Gauseva organizations. Villagers protested by placing the cow skeletons on the road, which led to a traffic jam stretching over 2 kilometres. The protesters accused the administration of neglect and demanded immediate action. Despite the police's attempts to disperse the crowd, the protest continued for three hours, during which 4-5 protesters were injured as mild force was used to clear the blockade. The protesters stated that cows in shelters were being mistreated and that the Municipal Corporation and local authorities had been informed but failed to act. Gauseva organizations also voiced their concerns, calling for an inspection of all cow shelters and punishment for those responsible for the mistreatment. They criticized the poor condition of cows in shelters and demanded strict action. The police took the cow skeletons into custody and began an investigation. The Municipal Corporation was instructed to cremate the cows respectfully, and the administration assured that strict measures would be taken against the culprits after a thorough investigation.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. Those who work towards the protection of the cow are also often attacked brutally by Muslim radicals. In all cases of cow slaughter and/or attack against those who work towards the protection of the cow, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorized as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
