Hindu man pressured to convert to Islam and consume beef by his Muslim wife, eight-year-old son circumcised

Case Summary
In Udham Singh Nagar district, Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, a Hindu man, Amit Singh, filed a police complaint against his Muslim wife, Sadrun Nisha, who pressured him to convert to Islam and circumcised their eight-year-old son without his consent. The case further escalated with threats against Amit's life by a Muslim man named Nizamuddin. Amit, originally from Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh, married Sadrun Nisha from Gorakhpur ten years prior in a love marriage. The couple initially resided in Ludhiana, Punjab, where Amit worked, and later moved to Rudrapur. They had an eight-year-old son, named Sachin. Amit said that trouble began when members of the local Muslim community introduced his wife to Nizamuddin, which led to a growing closeness between the two. Following this, Amit said that his wife started pressuring him to convert to Islam, adopt Islamic customs, and consume beef. About a month prior, Sadrun reportedly fled their home with their son and arranged for the child to be circumcised. She later returned and apologised, persuading Amit to allow her back into the household. However, Amit stated that during this period, she managed to sell his ancestral property without his consent. The situation worsened on November 15, 2024, when Sadrun disappeared again, this time taking ₹70,000 in cash, important documents, and clothes. Amit lodged a complaint with the police, saying that Nizamuddin was behind her actions and had also threatened him over the phone, demanding that he leave Rudrapur within a week or face death. Despite the initial lack of response from local authorities, an FIR was eventually registered on the instructions of senior officials. On November 24, the police detained Sadrun Nisha, but Nizamuddin remains absconding.

Threats were also employed to make the victim capitulate to the conversion demands. These actions, which were enforced against the Hindu man's will, signify a deliberate effort to force him to abandon his Hindu identity and adopt a different religious practice under duress. This case is a glaring example of how deep-seated intolerance can manifest in violent and coercive actions, with the ultimate goal of religious subjugation and domination. The deliberate nature of the deception and the subsequent attempt to force conversion highlights the extent of disdain the accused harboured for the victim's faith, making this a clear case of religiously motivated hate.
