Hindu man brutally attacked and killed by Muslim men over minor scuffle in Navi Mumbai
Case Summary
A 37-year-old Hindu man, Ratneshkumar Rajkumar Jaiswal, was found dead near Kalamboli Circle, Navi Mumbai, early on the morning of 1st December 2025. The police later identified that two Muslim men, Mohammad Chand Shabbir Shaikh (25) and Juef Jamil Ilias Shaikh (25), killed the Hindu man over a minor scuffle. According to the police, for some reason, a dispute had occurred between the accused and a group of transgender individuals at the Kalamboli Steel Market’s service road just before the incident. During this time, the victim, Ratneshkumar, and his friend arrived at the scene and intervened in an attempt to resolve the conflict. However, the accused became enraged by their intervention and, in a fit of anger, brutally assaulted Ratneshkumar, leading to his death, after which the accused fled the scene. The police managed to track down both the accused after analysing CCTV footage. Both men were arrested by the police on 2nd December 2025. During interrogation, they confessed to the crime.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, the immediate cause of the crime appears to be non-religious, that is, an altercation after the victim attempted to resolve the dispute between the accused men and the group of transgender individuals. However, this enraged the accused, who then inflicted extreme violence on the Hindu victim, leading to his death. this raises serious concerns about deeper religious motives and possible religious animosity behind the attack. Numerous documented instances show Muslims targeting Hindus with hostility rooted in disdain for the Hindu community and faith. Many communal attacks by Muslims against Hindus stem directly from such religious hatred, rendering this incident a strong candidate for hate crime classification. There is a well-documented precedent where hostility towards the Hindu community has played a significant role in similar violent incidents. These acts are rarely isolated instances of violence but rather stem from entrenched religious intolerance and animosity, fitting into a broader pattern of anti-Hindu hatred. In this specific case, while the attack resulting in death raises serious suspicion of communal undertones, there is currently no direct evidence to indicate that the attack was premeditated or motivated by religious hatred. No religious slurs or statements were reported during the incident, and the investigation so far has not revealed any prior connection or animosity between the accused and the victim. The altercation appears circumstantial, arising from a momentary dispute rather than a pattern of religious hostility. Since there are currently no clear indicators of religious motivation in this case, the case has been added to the Undecided database. If any further evidence emerges confirming a religious motive, then the case would be reclassified accordingly within the hate crime database.
