Muslim man insults Hindu leaders and Hinduism, threatens to make life difficult for Hindus
Case Summary
A Muslim man from Naraiycha village in the Zafarganj area, Fatehpur, went viral on social media, where he used insulting language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Hindu community. In the video, Shamsuddin alias Lalu is seen making threatening and offensive statements against the Hindu community, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the police administration, BJP workers and the RSS. The video also included remarks suggesting that life will become difficult for Hindus once the government changes, which led to tension and anger among the local community. Additionally, a photograph of the accused holding a firearm was also shared online. However, the newspaper does not confirm the validity of the viral video. The police station in charge, Dhananjay Saroj, confirmed that the video is under investigation, but the accused is currently absconding. Efforts are being made to apprehend him.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the tracker because the statements recorded in the video are not an isolated instance of online hate towards Hindu institutions and people but a direct invocation of a violent threat that has historically placed Hindus at immediate risk of physical harm. There have been several well-documented instances where calls for attacking Hindus have repeatedly preceded actual violence. The accused also denigrated a Hindu leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is widely recognised as a representative of Hindu beliefs, indicating a direct attack on the Hindu community and their faith. The statement serves to undermine Hinduism and create an atmosphere of fear and subjugation among the Hindu community. Also, Shamsuddin targeted the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. His animosity towards RSS stemmed from what the Hindu organisation represents - the collective assertion of Hindu identity and unity. RSS symbolises the cultural and religious identity of millions of Hindus. It is pertinent to note that Muslim extremists harbour specific animosity towards Hindus and their faith and also view India as a Hindu collectivity. The very basis of the partition of India was that the Muslims believed that Islam was a nation unto itself, which could not survive with a Hindu collectivity like India. RSS represents that Hindu collectivity, which the Muslim accused hates. Thus, Shamsuddin's speech was not random but borne out of animosity towards Hinduism or anything that represents Hinduism. Therefore, the accused’s remarks reveal an ideological intolerance towards Hinduism itself. By targeting the Hindu leader and RSS, he targeted the broader Hindu cause, reflecting a mindset that views Hindu assertion as a threat. By combining insults and calls for religious domination, this act falls under hate speech and represents a broader hostility towards Hindus as a religious group. But since the video couldn't be validated at the time of writing this report, the case is being put under the undecided database. If the authenticity of the video is confirmed in the future, the case would be reclassified as a hate crime.
