Hindu girl lured away by Muslim man; victim's father says daughter was taken away for forced conversion and sexual exploitation
Case Summary
In Basti, Uttar Pradesh, a 25-year-old Hindu girl was lured and abducted by a Muslim man named Jabbar Ali. The Hinduphobia Tracker accessed the FIR filed by the victim's father, named Ramujagir. He stated that on 11 November 2025, at around 10:30 pm, the victim went missing, with no one having any information about her. After doing some searching on his own, he found out that the accused, Jabbar Ali, a resident of Arazi Duhi Dharampur Mustahkam (Pandey Ka Purwa), had lured and abducted the victim under the false promise of marriage. One other person, named Raunak Rajbhar, also helped the accused in the abduction. Reports also stated that the Muslim accused pressured the Hindu girl to convert to Islam before subjecting her to sexual exploitation. Based on the victim's father's complaint, the police registered an FIR against the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. He remained absconding for several days, evading police efforts to locate him. The police later received information that he was seen near the Pandulghat culvert, after which he was apprehended and arrested by the police. As of the date of writing this report, the police were interrogating him, and further legal action was initiated against him.

Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, based on the statements of the victim's father, there is a strong suspicion that the Hindu girl was lured and abducted by the Muslim accused for sexual exploitation and religious conversion. This could potentially be a crime motivated by religious profiling, as it has been observed that in many cases, Muslim perpetrators target Hindu girls due to inherent animosity towards Hindus. Hindu girls are very vulnerable to crimes like rape and forced conversion at the hands of Muslim men. However, it is equally important to note that the victim was an adult at the time of her disappearance. Thus, she was legally capable of making her own decisions regarding her own life. She has the legal right to choose her partner, elope, adopt any religion, and marry as she wishes, provided her actions are consensual and free from force, duress, deception, or coercion. It could be entirely possible that she acted of her own accord and went away of her free will. Though being an adult does not negate the possibility of manipulation or coercion, it requires cautious evaluation of the available evidence. While the account of the victim’s father is significant, it should not be taken at face value in the absence of a statement from the victim herself, especially considering factors such as emotional distress and social stigma that may influence his perspective. Furthermore, the religious conversion and sexual exploitation aspect was also not mentioned in the FIR. At Hinduphobia Tracker, we adhere to rigorous standards before categorising any incident as a religiously motivated hate crime. In this instance, as the victim was an adult and there was currently no direct evidence of coercion or harassment for conversion, we are adding this case to the Undecided database. If any further information emerges indicating a religious motivation or confirming aspects of coercion or the victim's own statement, we will review the case and add it to the hate crime database.
