Hindu wedding procession attacked, Hindu man killed by Muslims over minor dispute in Uttar Pradesh
Case Summary
In Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, Hindu guests at a wedding procession were targeted and attacked by Muslim men, namely Irshad and his accomplices, over a minor altercation. This attack resulted in the murder of a Hindu man. According to media reports, the entire incident occurred in the Jakhora police station area of Lalitpur on 23rd November 2025. A wedding procession belonging to the Raikwar community arrived in Jakhora, Lalitpur, from Tikamgarh district, Madhya Pradesh. The wedding procession, accompanied by a band and music, began its journey to the bride's home. Midway through the procession, the lights on the groom's carriage went out. Wedding party members asked the carriage driver, Irshad, to turn them on. This led to a dispute between the Hindu guests and the carriage driver, Irshad. Irshad then called his Muslim associates and attacked the procession with sticks. A Hindu guest named Sagar Raikwar was seriously injured in the attack, and he was referred to a hospital in Gwalior. However, he died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Following this, the Hindu family members and villagers were furious at the carriage driver, Irshad, and his associates, and they protested at the police station. Subsequently, the police registered a case against the main accused, Irshad, and his accomplices Imran, Rashid, and Ajmeri, and arrested them. Additional Superintendent of Police Kalu Singh stated that a case had been registered at the Jakhora police station on 24th November 2025. On the following day, 25th November 2025, the charges were increased, and the four Muslim accused were produced in court.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, members of a Hindu wedding procession suffered a brutal attack by a group of Muslim men, sparked by a minor altercation. The extreme violence of the assault, which led to the death of a Hindu man, prompts serious questions about possible religious animosity as the underlying motive. Numerous documented instances show Muslims targeting Hindus with hostility rooted in disdain for the Hindu community and faith. Many communal attacks by Muslims against Hindus stem directly from such religious hatred, rendering this incident a strong candidate for hate crime classification. However, available reports provide no clear evidence of a religious motive in this specific case. Without definitive proof, it proves impossible to classify the crime definitively as one driven by religious animosity. Therefore, this case is currently being added to the "Undecided" database. If any new evidence surfaces confirming religious animosity as a key factor, the case will undergo reassessment for inclusion in the Hinduphobia Tracker's Hate Crime Database. Disclaimer: In this case, media reports did not specify the exact number of victims targeted by the Muslim perpetrators, despite stating that multiple Hindu guests were attacked. The reports identified only one Hindu guest, Sagar Raikwar, who died as a result of the attack. Therefore, for documentation purposes, the victim count stands at '1'—a conservative estimate representing this man's death.
