Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, it is important to keep in mind that this incident took place at Mela Ramnagariya. This fair takes place because sages, pilgrims stay at the banks of river Ganga for a month. Therefore, this was clearly a religious fair which was attended mostly be pilgrims and devotees. In this religious fair, the Muslim perpetrators abused and assaulted the Hindu victim and his family and were brutal enough to kill him, had the Sadhus not intervened. There is a strong suspicion that the attack was born out of religious animosity of the Muslim perpetrators towards Hindus and Hindu devotees predominantly. However, since this indication has not been given by the victim, his family or the sadhus, this case is being categorised as undecided. If more information emerges, it will be added to the hate crime database.
