Fruit vendor Aftab assaults Hindu girl for trying to end their relationship following Neha Hiremath's murder

A Muslim man, Aftab, was arrested in Hubballi, Karnataka, for assaulting a Hindu girl who wished to end their friendship following Neha Hiremath’s murder. The victim reported Aftab, a fruit vendor, to the authorities, stating that he had pursued her for two years with gifts and tokens of affection. When she tried to end the relationship after Neha's murder, Aftab allegedly turned violent, assaulting her on the street with a heavy object. Aftab proceeded to ignite the gifts she returned on the roadside. He also had a knife. Bystanders intervened to stop the attack. Allegedly, Aftab had pressured the victim to maintain the relationship. Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar confirmed Aftab's arrest in connection with the case.

In this case, the Hindu woman was friends with a Muslim man, however, after the brutal murder of Neha Hiremath in Karnataka, she wanted to distance herself from the Muslim man. The Muslim man, however, owing to his one-sided obsession, the Muslim man assaulted the Hindu victim. This could possibly be a case of religious animosity which led the Muslim man to react violently to the woman. However, on the face of it, there is no clear evidence of religious motivations.
