Case Summary
In Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, a 22-year-old Hindu girl disappeared from her home, leading her family to look after Asib, along with his mother Chuhiya and brother Ghulam, for kidnapping her. The incident occurred in the Naraini police station area on March 9, 2024. Both the girl and the accused reside in the same village. The family lodged an FIR against five individuals, including Asib, under IPC sections 366 and 120-B. Asib was arrested, and efforts were made to ensure the victim's safety. The victim's brother filed a complaint on March 10, stating that she left home around 11:30 PM, taking Rs 1 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh. The following day, she called her elder sister, accusing Asib of manipulating her and conspiring to make her elope.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, it is evident, according to the victim's own testimony, that she was manipulated by the Muslim man to elope with him. However. the girl is not a minor, but an adult. Given that the victim herself has not made any statement about the religious motivation of the culprit, the case is being categorised as 'undecided'. If more information emerges, it would added to the hate crime database.
