Muslim mob attacks Hindu wedding procession in Siddharthnagar when asked to stop filming the women
Case Summary
In Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh, a wedding function of a Hindu family was attacked by a mob of Muslim miscreants after the Hindu family confronted them for taking photos and videos of the women attending the wedding. The incident occurred on April 21, 2024. The accused, identified as Naved, Aftab, Saddam, Naushad, Salman, Iltaf, Haroon, Afzal, Ilyas, and Israr, were taking photos and videos of Hindu women attending the wedding procession of Purnamasi Vishwakarma family when confronted by the male attendees. This led to verbal abuse and physical assault by the accused, resulting in injuries to several individuals, including a minor girl. Hearing the commotion, when villagers started gathering at the spot, the attackers ran away after threatening to kill the wedding attendees. Following a complaint filed by the Hindu victims, the police registered an FIR against the accused under various sections of the IPC. However, the Muslim side lodged a cross-FIR a day later, accusing Lavkush Pal, Radheshyam, and Rampal of assaulting Naved. Both sides have filed complaints, and the police have taken action against the accused from both parties. Additionally, two of the accused involved in the wedding procession attack were previously booked for desecrating a religious pandal of the Hindu community. Israr and Salman were accused of uprooting and tearing the saffron flag of Maa Durga's pandal in Mujhana village (a Muslim dominated area) and urinating on it in a separate incident last year.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, the Muslim men took offence to a wedding function of a Hindu family. They attacked the attendees for merely taking photos and videos. As per the report, the accused had earlier been accused of desecrating a religious pandal of the Hindu community and also uprooting and tearing the saffron flag of Maa Durga's pandal. It is seen as an insult to the Hindu faith to desecrate religious flags or any other Hindu religious symbol, and anyone who engages in such criminal activity would only do so out of hatred for Hinduism. The history of the perpetrators makes it apparent that the attack was indeed, out of religious animosity against Hindus, however, since the immediate violence wasn’t religious it’s being put under 'undecided'
