Fuzail meets Harshada on PUBG, marries and converts her to Zeenat, strangulates her for refusing to be a surrogate

Case Summary
Zeenat, formerly known as Harshada, is fighting for her life in a Moradabad hospital under suspicious circumstances. Allegations have surfaced that her husband, Mohammad Fuzail, strangled her, while Fuzail claims she attempted suicide. There are also reports suggesting Fuzail forced Harshada into surrogacy, and when she refused, he assaulted her.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, the Hindu woman appears to have married the Muslim man and converted to Islam willingly, without pressure or deception (from the available information). Post-marriage, the Muslim man started torturing her and eventually, strangled her when she refused to be a surrogate. Such brutality often comes from animosity towards a woman whose professed religious identity was Hindu, even though she later converted to Islam. Hindu women are often treated as chattel and married specifically for the purpose of conversion. Since there is no empathy for the spouse, it leads to violence even though the immediate and apparent trigger of the violence may not appear to be religiously motivated. While such cases do have a strong precedence, this case seems to be a borderline case. While there are strong suspicions that the torture and brutality were perpetrated owing to inherent religious hate, there is no apparent allegation of a religious motivate and therefore, it is being categorized as 'undecided'.
