Ex-IAS officer accuses a Muslim man of deceiving his daughter, threatens her with pictures to marry him
Case Summary
A retired IAS officer and his wife, in a video shared on April 21, 2024, expressed concern about the safety of their daughter, alleging she had fallen victim to Love Jihad since October 2018. They appealed for urgent assistance from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Their daughter, originally from Odisha, pursued her medical studies in Ukraine and completed her internship at a hospital in Noida, where she met Abdurrahman, who worked in Unani medicine. Initially, their daughter complained that Abdurrahman was forcing her to interact with him. Subsequently, she was transferred to another hospital, and the family moved to Rajkot, Gujarat, where the retired IAS officer was posted. The family received a distressing phone call informing them that their daughter had suffered severe burn injuries at her Noida home. Abdurrahman, who was present at the scene, provided vague explanations about the incident. The retired IAS officer grew suspicious of Abdurrahman's intentions, particularly when their daughter revealed that she had been unconscious when the incident occurred and woke up naked under a shower. After the incident, their daughter received treatment in a hospital in Rajkot. The family alleges that Abdurrahman accompanied her to Rajkot and took advantage of her state, using obscene pictures taken during her treatment to blackmail her. Abdurrahman claimed to marry their daughter at Arya Samaj Seva Trust in Ghaziabad, purportedly converting to Hinduism in the process. However, the family disputes the legality of this marriage and asserts that Abdurrahman's actions are part of a larger scheme to usurp their property. The family says that Abdurrahman is pressuring them to withdraw the case filed against him, threatening their daughter and their son's life. Fearing for their daughter's safety and the integrity of their family, they have sought assistance from Hindu organisations and the government, calling for intervention by the CBI or NIA.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, there is a strong suspicion based on the statements of the parents that the Hindu woman was indeed deceived and perhaps trapped in a relationship, targeted specifically for her religious identity. However, it is also evident that the girl is an adult and there is no evidence yet as to whether the woman married the Muslim man out of her own free will or the union was a result of coercion and threat. Due to the element of doubt, this case is being categorised as undecided. If more information emerges, it would be added to the hate crime database.
