Hindu woman lured into relationship, gang-raped, and murdered by Muslim men in Madhya Pradesh
Case Summary
In Pachore, located in the Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, a 20-year-old Hindu woman was lured into a relationship by a Muslim man named Arshad. The accused and his two associates had gang-raped the Hindu woman and killed her. According to media reports, the victim's family stated that Arshad lured her into a relationship, then gang-raped her with his accomplices before murdering her and dumping her body in the river. The family also said that the victim's mobile phone call records pointed to this version of events. After the body was found, Hindu organisations linked the incident to "love jihad". Love Jihad refers to a phenomenon in which Muslim men target Hindu women, religiously profile them, and lure them into relationships or marriages for sexual exploitation or forced conversions. Hindu organisations shut down the local market and surrounded the police station. As the situation escalated, a large contingent of police was deployed from across the district. The administration remained on high alert, and Hindu organisations continued their protests. Sarangpur SDOP (Sub Divisional Police Officer) Arvind Singh confirmed that a missing person report had been filed two days earlier (27th September 2025). The woman’s body was found in the river on 29th September 2025. After the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family. Further legal action was to be taken after the post-mortem report was received. Following this incident, anger and tension prevailed throughout Pachore. While the family demanded justice, Hindu organisations carried out strong protests, calling it a case of love jihad and gang rape. The entire area was in turmoil. The police confirmed that one of the accused had been arrested; meanwhile, further investigations continued.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, a Hindu woman was lured into a relationship, abducted, gang-raped, and brutally murdered by Muslim men. This case could potentially have been an instance of religious profiling of the Hindu victim, where she was targeted for her religious identity before being gang-raped and killed. This possibility arises because there have been multiple cases in which Hindu women and girls were targeted by Muslim men for sexual exploitation or forced conversions. The targeting of the Hindu victim in this case could be driven by deep-seated religious animosity. If the Muslim perpetrators had simply sought sexual relationships, Muslim women would have been more readily available to them than a Hindu woman. The fact that the perpetrators deliberately targeted a Hindu woman could suggest religious profiling of the victim. However, it is equally possible that the crime was committed out of opportunity rather than outright religious animosity. At present, any form of religious motivation behind the crime remains unclear. The victim’s family have not stated that there was any forced religious conversion or profiling of her based on her Hindu identity. Therefore, this case had been placed under the "Undecided" database. If further information emerges indicating that the crime was motivated by religious animosity, the case would be reassessed and entered into the hate crime database of the Hinduphobia Tracker.
