Case Summary

In Gurugram, Haryana, a deaf and mute Hindu woman was targeted by a Muslim man, Adnan Khan. He called her to the city on the pretext of arranging a job and then sexually assaulted her after giving her a drink mixed with an intoxicating substance. According to reports, the accused, who is also deaf and mute, had first come into contact with the victim through Instagram, before meeting her at a programme organised for deaf and non-speaking persons in Lucknow. Over time, Khan remained in contact with the Hindu woman and offered to help her obtain employment. Acting on this assurance, she travelled to Gurugram on 14 February 2026. Khan then took her to his room, where he mixed an intoxicating substance into a cold drink and made her consume it. The victim stated in her complaint that after she became incapacitated, Khan raped her. After the sexual assault, Khan also threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone. Subsequently, the victim approached the Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow, where a Zero FIR was registered on the basis of her complaint. Since the incident had taken place in Gurugram, the matter was transferred to Haryana, following which an FIR was registered at Sector 17/18 Police Station in Gurugram. Gurugram Police subsequently traced Adnan Khan, aged 29, from Sector 18 and arrested him on 8th October 2026. Khan is a resident of Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh, and had studied up to Class 12. He was produced before a city court and sent to judicial custody, while further investigation into the case continued.
