Case Summary

In Jodhpur, a Muslim man was arrested for posting derogatory and provocative remarks targeting Hindu deities on Instagram, in a case involving objectionable and inflammatory comments that offended Hindu religious sentiments. The comments were posted through the Instagram account “amaanx_00”. On 2 October 2026, Nagori Gate police received information about objectionable comments posted from an Instagram account. When police searched the account, the page appeared unavailable, indicating the account had been deleted after the comments were posted. Station House Officer Suresh Kumar Soni said the police subsequently identified Mohammad Aman, 20, son of Dilawar Hussain, who lived near Shahon Ki Masjid in the Uday Mandir area. The police took him into custody along with his mobile handset for examination. During a detailed examination of the device, the police found the Instagram application installed on it. During questioning, it emerged that Aman had been operating the “amaanx_00” account. He admitted he created the account and posted derogatory and provocative comments on a reel. The police registered a criminal case against Aman and arrested him. The action followed the identification of the account and the examination of the seized mobile phone, which established the connection between the accused and the Instagram account. The police also took action to remove the objectionable material from Instagram and deleted the associated Instagram identification account. The action was taken on the directions of Police Commissioner Anshuman Bhomia to maintain peace and communal harmony in the area ahead of the forthcoming festivals and Panchayati Raj elections. The police issued the update on 3 October 2026.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

The primary category selected is: Hate speech against Hindus. The subcategory selected is: Anti-Hindu slurs, mocking faith. Anti-Hindu slurs and the deliberate mocking of the Hindu faith owing to religious animosity involve the usage of derogatory terms, stereotypes, or offensive references to religious practices, symbols, or figures. One of the common anti-Hindu slurs used against Hindus is “cow-worshipper” and “cow piss drinker”. The intention of using this term is to demean and mock Hindus as a group and their religious beliefs since Hindus consider the cow holy. Additionally, some symbols and the slurs attached to them have a historical context that exacerbates the insult, hate, stereotyping, dehumanisation and oppression against Hindus. Cow worship has been used for centuries to denigrate Hindus, insult their faith and oppress Hindus specifically as a religious group. There has been overwhelming documentation about how cow slaughter has been used to persecute Hindus with cow meat being thrown in temples and places of worship. There has also been overwhelming documentation where cow meat (beef) has been force-fed to Hindus to either forcefully convert them to Islam or denigrate their faith. Apart from cow worship, the Swastika – which holds deep religious significance for the Hindus – has also been misinterpreted and distorted to use as a slur against Hindus. Similarly, the worship of the Shivling has been used by supremacist ideologies and religions to denigrate Hindus owing to religious animosity. Such slurs and denigration stem out of inherent animosity and hate towards Hindus and their faith, therefore, it is categorised as hate speech targeted at Hindus specifically owing to their religious identity. This case has been added to the Hinduphobia Tracker because the Muslim man used Instagram to post derogatory and provocative content targeting Hindu deities and hurting Hindu religious sentiments. The most direct religious marker was the targeting of Hindu gods and goddesses through objectionable and derogatory remarks, which Mohammad Aman had admitted to making during questioning. The significance of this conduct lay in the fact that Hindu deities are not merely cultural or historical figures but are figures of worship, devotion and religious reverence for Hindus. Derogatory treatment of such figures therefore struck at matters that formed part of the religious identity and spiritual framework of Hindu devotees. By directing degrading remarks at Hindu deities, the conduct had treated sacred Hindu beliefs with contempt and had crossed from ordinary expression into the denigration of objects central to Hindu faith. His admission that he had created the account and posted the comments had further established his own involvement in the conduct. The religious character of the remarks had consequently been defined by both their subject and their treatment: Hindu deities had been specifically selected as the targets of disparagement, making the faith itself the focus of the offensive expression. Equally significant was the inflammatory and offensive treatment of Hindu religious beliefs and sentiments. The comments had concerned matters regarded as sacred by Hindus and had been expressed in a provocative manner that was capable of causing religious offence. Their character had therefore extended beyond mere disagreement or criticism and had involved language directed at beliefs and objects of Hindu reverence. The conduct had undermined respect for Hindu religious practices and beliefs and had contributed to the denigration of Hindu religious identity in a public social-media setting. Accordingly, this case has been documented in the Hinduphobia Tracker's Hate Crime Database as an instance of religiously motivated hostility directed against Hinduism and the religious identity of the Hindu community.
