Hindu woman lured into relationship by Muslim man posing as a Hindu in Indore, Madhya Pradesh
Case Summary
In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, a Hindu woman was targeted by a Muslim man identified as Ahad Lakadiya, who posed as a Hindu using the name “Roshan” while establishing a relationship with her. The man concealed his religious identity from the woman, and the matter came to light after the two were found together in a room at the Radisson Hotel in Indore. The incident came to light after information emerged about the presence of Ahad and the Hindu woman in Room No. 514 of the Radisson Hotel at approximately 1:30 am. Following this information, members of Shri Rajput Karni Sena and other Hindu organisations reached the hotel premises and confronted the man over the circumstances of his association with the woman. According to the information available, Ahad had established contact with the Hindu woman through social media, particularly Instagram, and the two subsequently remained in regular contact. During their interaction, he introduced himself as “Roshan” and concealed his Muslim identity from her. Their acquaintance later progressed to a meeting at the Radisson Hotel, where they were found together in the same room. Hindu activists stated that Ahad had deliberately concealed his religious identity while developing contact with the woman. They identified him as a resident of the Manikbagh area of Indore and stated that he worked at or managed a momo shop or café. According to the activists, he used social media, particularly Instagram, to establish contact with women who visited the establishment. They stated that his interaction with the Hindu woman had also developed through social media before the two began meeting in person. Following the incident, Shri Rajput Karni Sena state president Surendra Singh Dixit, along with Mansingh Rajawat, Vinayak Sharma, Kapil Kaushal and other activists, was among those who reached the hotel. The man was subsequently handed over to the Vijay Nagar Police, who detained him and began questioning him. The police initiated an inquiry into the circumstances of the relationship, including how the two had met, the identity Ahad had presented to the woman and the nature of their previous contact. Statements from the woman and other persons connected with the matter were also being examined. At that stage, the woman had not filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him. The Hinduphobia Tracker team subsequently contacted the Indore police to verify the authenticity of the incident and the allegations. The police confirmed that the Muslim man had lied about his religious identity while befriending the victim. However, the police did not clearly reveal whether the woman had filed a First Information Report (FIR) or disclose the status of any complaint lodged by her.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The primary category selected for this case is: Crimes against women in relationships and other sexual crimes. The selected subcategory is: Man pretends to be Hindu. The tertiary category selected for this case is: Name changed. When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by mala fide intentions. In some cases, the woman eventually accepts the man’s original religious identity and converts after the man’s identity is revealed. These cases could be argued as cases of religious brainwashing and a result of the pressure a woman feels after getting into a relationship with a man. The woman, it can be argued, also changed her religious identity because of the stigma she believes she might face if she chooses to walk out of a deceptive relationship. However, for the purpose of documenting hate crimes, the cases in this subcategory are limited to those where there is explicit violence aimed at religious conversion against the wishes of the victim (force-feeding beef, blackmailing with intimate videos, rape on refusal to convert, etc.), or if the woman herself complains of the man’s religious deception. In such cases, it is established that the deception of the non-Hindu man had a specific aim of religious conversion or targeting of the victim due to her Hindu religious identity, therefore, making it a religiously motivated hate crime. In this case, the Hindu woman was deceived into a relationship by a Muslim man pretending to be Hindu. The perpetrator concealed his religious identity while establishing contact with the victim and subsequently met her at a hotel under the fabricated Hindu identity. Firstly, the perpetrator's act of deception by posing as a Hindu demonstrates a clear disregard for the victim’s religious identity and the trust she placed in him. By hiding his true identity, the Muslim man manipulated the Hindu woman's trust and approached her under false pretences, indicating a deliberate effort to establish a relationship through deception. This undermined her ability to make an informed decision about the relationship based on the man's actual religious identity and infringed upon her right to make personal choices without being misled. Thus, the perpetrator’s deliberate decision to conceal his religious identity underscores the religious dimension of this case. In such instances, identity concealment is not just a deceptive tactic for personal reasons but a calculated strategy rooted in religious profiling and targeting. The accused was aware that the victim, being Hindu, would likely refuse his advances if she knew his real identity, and he circumvented this by lying, which directly points to a religiously driven intent. This deception reflects a larger pattern where Hindu women are specifically singled out using false identities, often with coercion or exploitation in mind. Such targeted victimisation based on religion not only demonstrates a fundamental disregard for Hinduism but also exposes a deeper animosity toward Hindus and their beliefs. The accused’s meeting with the Hindu woman at a hotel after establishing a relationship under a fabricated Hindu identity demonstrated his intention to exploit the trust he had secured through religious deception for sexual purposes. By concealing his Muslim identity and presenting himself as “Roshan”, he manipulated the victim’s trust and deprived her of the opportunity to make an informed choice about the relationship. Informed consent requires that personal and intimate decisions be made freely, without deliberate deception that undermines an individual’s autonomy. By exploiting the woman’s Hindu identity to gain her trust, the accused violated her right to make relationship choices in accordance with her religious beliefs and personal convictions. This deliberate manipulation also infringed upon her bodily autonomy by securing access to her through a false identity. The use of fabricated religious identity to target a Hindu woman for sexual exploitation therefore constituted religiously profiled sexual victimisation, in which deception based on religious identity was used to undermine the victim’s informed consent and personal autonomy. The absence of a formal police complaint from the victim does not invalidate the religious deception involved in this case. Victims of sexual exploitation and relationship-related abuse often refrain from reporting incidents because of social stigma, fear of public scrutiny, emotional distress, concerns about privacy or the risk of being blamed. Such barriers prevent victims from approaching the police, particularly when intimate relationships and religious identity are involved. The lack of an FIR must therefore not be treated as proof that the deception did not occur. In this case, a station constable contacted by the Hinduphobia Tracker team confirmed that the man had lied about his religious identity while befriending the victim. This confirmation substantiated the religious deception, regardless of whether the woman had formally lodged a complaint. This incident is not an isolated case. Between 1 January 2023 and 9 October 2026, the Hinduphobia Tracker documented 1,445 incidents in which Hindu women were trapped in relationships by Muslim men for the purpose of sexual exploitation or religious conversion. Of these, 898 cases involved victims being deceived through a fabricated Hindu identity. These figures demonstrate that religious deception is a recurring tactic used to gain the trust of Hindu women and draw them into predatory relationships. The present case follows this documented pattern, in which a Hindu woman was approached by a Muslim man who concealed his religious identity and posed as a Hindu. Considered alongside the confirmation from the police that the accused had lied about his religious identity, the incident reflects a pattern of targeting Hindu women through religious deception and constitutes a religiously driven hate crime. Since this case meets the parameters of a hate crime, it is being added to the Hinduphobia Tracker’s Hate Crime Database. Disclaimer: The Hinduphobia Tracker records incidents based on the date on which they occurred or when the victim’s ordeal began, rather than the date on which they were subsequently reported in the media. In this case, the available reports stated that the hotel incident took place on 5th September 2026. Therefore, 5th September 2026 has been recorded as the incident date for documentation purposes.
