Case Summary

A Hindu woman from Majuli, Assam, was deceived into a relationship by a Muslim man named Khurshid Ali, a resident of the Jalukbari area of Guwahati, by posing as a Hindu man. According to the victim, the accused, Khurshid Ali, a resident of the Jalukbari area of Guwahati, concealed his Muslim identity and lured her into a relationship by introducing himself as “Rahul Das” and presenting himself as a Hindu. The victim stated that she entered into a relationship with Ali and that they subsequently began living together. When she discovered his actual identity as Khurshid Ali, she was already five months pregnant. Despite confronting him about his identity, she continued the relationship because of her unborn child and hoped that the situation would improve. However, she was subjected to physical and mental harassment during the relationship, particularly when she attempted to distance herself from Ali or end the relationship. She also described an incident during her pregnancy in which Ali pressed a pillow over her face in an attempt to suffocate her. Even after the birth of her child, she was subjected to continuous harassment and the accused demanded money from her. She further stated that she was eventually taken to a house in Majuli, where Ali left her with their child and abandoned her. The victim also stated that the accused threatened her over the telephone when she attempted to contact him and of making derogatory remarks about her Hindu religious identity during their conversations. As of the date of writing this report, the matter was under investigation.
