Case Summary
In Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, a social media post concerning Lord Ram contained objectionable, disrespectful and indecent words against the Hindu deity. Police registered a case and began looking for the person who had made the post. With help from the Cyber Cell, police traced the digital details linked to the post and identified the person as Madhur Kumar, son of Chaman Singh, a resident of Gram Chandner in the Bahadurgarh Police Station area of Hapur district. Bahadurgarh Police then arrested Madhur Kumar. The arrest took place within a few hours of the investigation. Rahul Yadav, Circle Officer, Garhmukteshwar, supervised the operation and directed the police team. Indrakant Yadav, Station House Officer of Bahadurgarh Police Station, guided the operation. The team that made the arrest included Sub-Inspector Sheeshpal Bhardwaj, Sub-Inspector Anurodh Kumar and Constable Prince. After the arrest, police began further legal proceedings against Madhur Kumar and sent him to jail. Police registered the case under the relevant legal provisions. Hapur Police continued to monitor social media platforms for objectionable and inflammatory content. Police warned that comments that could disturb religious harmony or the local atmosphere would not be tolerated and that strict legal action would be taken. People were advised not to share or forward objectionable, inflammatory or rumour-based posts. They were also asked to inform the local police or Cyber Cell if they came across such content instead of taking matters into their own hands. Police also said maintaining peace, social harmony, and law and order in Hapur district was a priority. Police said they would take action under the law against anyone who tried to provoke religious feelings, spread rumours, or disturb social harmony.
