Hindu minor girl sexually exploited and blackmailed by Muslim man in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh
Case Summary
A 16-year-old Hindu girl was lured, blackmailed with obscene videos and sexually exploited by a 23-year-old Fardeen in a hotel in the Sadar Bazaar area of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Members of a Hindu organisation reached Ranjeet Hotel in Thapar Nagar on August 17, 2026, after receiving information about the minor's presence there and found the two in a compromising position. They informed the police, who took Fardeen into custody. Following a complaint by the girl's mother, the police registered a case against Fardeen and arrested him. His mobile phone was also seized, while the girl was to undergo a medical examination. In her complaint, the victim's mother stated that her daughter had gone to a friend's house but later received a call from her daughter's phone. She stated that Fardeen had been blackmailing the girl, called her to the hotel, raped her and recorded obscene videos of her. She further stated that Fardeen had repeatedly sexually exploited her daughter and that the victim was trapped in a relationship. She also stated that the obscene videos were used to exert further control over the girl. Members of the Hindu organisation raised serious questions about how a 16-year-old minor was permitted to enter the hotel, particularly when hotel entry is prohibited for persons below 18 years of age. They questioned how the hotel management allowed the minor to enter, whether her identity was verified and who had booked the room for the Muslim man and the minor. He also questioned how the hotel was permitted to operate despite information about such activities taking place there. Hindu leaders also stated that the hotel management and police failed to prevent the minor from entering the premises and demanded strict action against those responsible. They further stated that the hotel should be investigated and that its licence should be revoked if violations were established.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been placed in the Undecided Database because, although the circumstances of the incident raise concerns that warrant closer scrutiny, the evidence currently available does not conclusively establish that the offences were motivated by religious hostility or that the victim was targeted specifically because of her Hindu identity. The incident involved a 16-year-old Hindu minor girl who was blackmailed, sexually assaulted and exploited by a 23-year-old Muslim man identified as Fardeen at Ranjeet Hotel in Meerut. The girl's mother stated in her complaint that the Muslim man blackmailed her daughter, called her to the hotel, raped her and recorded explicit videos of her and sexually exploited her. These facts indicate that the accused had cultivated a relationship with the victim before abducting her and subjected her to prolonged exploitation thereafter. Such circumstances warrant careful examination to determine whether the victim's religious identity had any bearing on her selection or the commission of the offence. The Hinduphobia Tracker has documented instances in which Hindu women and minor girls have been deliberately targeted by Muslim men through deceptive relationships, followed by abduction, sexual exploitation, coercion, or other forms of abuse. In some such cases, subsequent investigations have revealed evidence of religious targeting, coercive conversion attempts, or expressions of anti-Hindu hostility. Consequently, where a Hindu victim is groomed and exploited by a Muslim accused, it becomes necessary to examine whether the crime forms part of a broader pattern of religiously motivated victimisation or whether it arose from personal or criminal motives unrelated to religion. However, in the present case, the evidence presently available does not establish that the victim was targeted because she was Hindu or that the accused acted out of hostility towards Hinduism. There is no indication that the accused attempted to convert the victim to Islam, compelled her to abandon her faith, insulted Hindu religious beliefs, made anti-Hindu statements, or otherwise demonstrated a religious motive during the commission of the offence. Rather, the available facts indicate that the accused groomed the victim, blackmailed her and sexually exploited her. These offences, grave as they are, point towards criminal exploitation, on the presently available evidence, conclusively demonstrate a religiously motivated hate crime. Therefore, while the available circumstances raise a strong concern that the Hindu minor may have been targeted because of her Hindu identity and religious animosity may have been involved, the absence of conclusive evidence establishing this motive prevents the case from being classified as a confirmed hate crime at this stage. The case has accordingly been placed in the Undecided database of the Hinduphobia Tracker pending further evidence regarding the religious motive behind the targeting and exploitation of the Hindu minor.
