Case Summary
A Hindu woman was deceived, married under a pretence, and tortured by a Muslim man who claimed he had converted to the Hindu religion. The victim, a resident of the Quarsi area in Aligarh, stated that she first came into contact with the accused, Nadeem Ahmad, in the year 2001 at a gym. The accused introduced himself and told her that he had converted to another religion and changed his name to Nand Kishore Sharma. Based on this representation, a relationship developed between them, following which the accused married the victim on 11 November 2003. After the marriage, the victim stated that the behaviour of the accused changed, and he began subjecting her to continuous abuse. He used to verbally abuse and physically assault her regularly. Whenever she resisted, he threatened to kill her or falsely implicate her in cases. The victim further stated that she was administered intoxicating substances, which deteriorated her mental condition over time, and she was subsequently portrayed as mentally unstable. The victim stated that due to prolonged harassment, she was driven to attempt suicide on multiple occasions. She further alleged that the accused extracted lakhs of rupees and jewellery from her and her family under the pretext of business and used those resources to build his own assets. The victim later came to know that the accused was already married and had relations with other women. Following this, she filed a complaint at the Quarsi police station against the accused, his family members, and other unidentified women. Based on her complaint, a case was registered, and the police initiated an investigation into the matter. The complaint also stated that the victim had been subjected to exploitation and harassment for nearly 20 years after the marriage, which was solemnised based on a false identity presented by the accused at the time of initiating the relationship.
