Minor Hindu girl abducted and brutally raped by Muslim man on day of Ram Navami in Jehanabad, Bihar
Case Summary
In the Nagar police station area of Jehanabad in Bihar, a 5-year-old Hindu girl was raped by a 19-year-old Muslim man. The accused was a resident of her own neighbourhood. This incident occurred on the day of Ram Navami, 27 March 2026. The incident came to light when the victim filed a police complaint. As per the complaint filed by the girl’s mother, the girl was playing near her house when she was kidnapped by the accused. He lured the girl to his house and committed the rape there. After some time, the girl came back home crying and narrated her ordeal. As the news spread in the area, the Muslim accused fled. But the next day, when he returned to the locality, people recognised him, caught him, and beat him up before informing the police. The police reached the spot and took the accused into custody. However, when he was taken to the hospital, the people present got furious and attacked him. The locals shouted slogans demanding that the accused be handed over to them and punished on the spot. The incident occurred at Sadar Hospital in the Nagar police station area, where police struggled to control the situation. The police took a firm stand and were ultimately able to manage the situation. After tight security and considerable effort, the police team was able to get the accused medically examined and return him to the police station. An FIR was registered against the accused based on the complaint by the victim's mother, and the accused was arrested. He was sent to judicial custody. The Hindu victim was made to undergo a medical examination, and police said further action would be taken after the report came in. The investigation was still ongoing, and all aspects of the case were being examined. The incident sparked widespread anger among local Hindu residents, with people demanding justice for the Hindu child and strict punishment for the accused. Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Manish Chandra Chaudhary stated that following the rape of the 5-year-old girl, some people became enraged and vandalised the accused’s home. The situation was resolved through pacification. Some people had gathered at the hospital for no reason, but the police dispersed the crowd. The situation was currently under control. Following this incident, additional police forces were deployed in sensitive areas and at the hospital.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case is being added to the "Undecided" database of the Hinduphobia tracker. Here, a minor Hindu girl was abducted and raped on the day of Ram Navami by a Muslim man in Jehanabad, raising suspicion of religious animosity in the immediate crime. Firstly, the abduction and rape of the minor Hindu girl by the Muslim man raises multiple concerns. Considering the two identities of the victim and the perpetrator involved, it raises suspicion that the victim was targeted and raped for her religious identity. The Hinduphobia Tracker has previously recorded precedents of religiously motivated sexual violence against Hindu women and minor girls at the hands of Muslim men due to their religious animosity. Such acts of sexual violence aim to humiliate and degrade a Hindu woman for her faith identity, making it a clear case of a religiously motivated hate crime. Therefore, in this current case also, the victim being a Hindu and the perpetrator being a Muslim raises similar doubts on whether religious animosity was involved in the crime. Furthermore, another reason why this incident becomes suspicious is the timing of the incident on the sacred day of Ram Navami, a sacred Hindu religious festival. Multiple similar instances of attacks on Hindus, including physical and sexual violence against Hindus during religious festivals, have been recorded. All of this is done to desecrate the festival celebrations and the atmosphere, and also to humiliate a Hindu victim on the occasion of their sacred festival, making it a clear case of a religiously motivated hate crime. Henceforth, even in this case, considering that the victim was targeted on the sacred day of Ram Navami and was raped, it raises suspicion on whether the targeting was done out of religious animosity. However, it is equally plausible that the abduction and rape stemmed from a crime of opportunity. No religious slurs were involved, and no clear anti-Hindu animosity is visible. The Hinduphobia tracker classifies a case as a hate crime only when it meets strict parameters requiring evident indicators of religious animosity, which this current incident lacks entirely. Consequently, the case will remain in the "Undecided" database. If any further information emerges demonstrating religious animosity as the driving motivator in the crime, it will be reassessed and transferred to the tracker's hate crime database.
