Muslim men jailed for molesting Hindu girl and making obscene comments in Moradabad

Case Summary
On the evening of October 8, in Kanth town, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, a Hindu girl faced harassment from three young Muslim men while returning home from a temple with her cousin. The incident began near the Kumar Petrol Pump when the men, identified as Mohammad Shoaib, Imran from Afzalgarh, and Salman from Ghaziabad, started making lewd comments and indecently touching her. In response, the girl fought back by kicking and punching the assailants. When they attempted to flee, she pursued them, flagged down a bike for a lift, and caught up with them again. She continued to confront them until the police arrived. The police apprehended the attackers after being alerted to the situation. The girl filed a complaint at the Kanth police station, leading to the arrest of the three men. An FIR was registered against them under sections related to molestation and assault. The accused were presented in court and subsequently remanded to jail.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, the Hindu women were on their way back from the Temple when the Muslim perpetrators sexually harassed the women. There is a suspicion that the Hindu women were targeted owing to their religious identity. The theory is it would have been easy to target the Hindu women based on their religious identity since it may have been evident that they were Hindus, given the tika and other identifications. However, there is no indication beyond speculation that the victims were targeted based on their religious identity. For that reason, this case is being added to undecided database.
