Muslim man in Pakistan abducts Hindu girl and pressurises her to embrace Islam, forces to sign affidavit claiming it was on her free will

Case Summary
Ishwar Bheel, a resident of Malhi village in Sindh's Tharparkar district, said that Sikhander Bajeer of Tando Adam Naukot of Mirpur-Khason abducted his 20-year-old daughter Guddi Bheel while she was leaving the hospital to get fever medicines for her brother. He said that she had been pressured to embrace Islam and forced to sign and submit an affidavit addressed to Senior Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner Mirpur Khas, claiming that she converted to Islam on her free will and was not pressurized or forced to do so.

Such cases often also include harassment to ensure the Hindu victim abandons his/her professed religion and adopts the religion of the perpetrator. In this case, the victim, who belonged to a weaker section of society, was abducted and kept in confinement. This was done to intimidate the victim into acceding to the perpetrator's demand of conversion. Not only this, she was browbeaten into accepting Islam and submitting an affidavit claiming that she converted to Islam on her free will. The harassment, coercion and intimidation were employed only to convert the Hindu victim to Islam. The case has been classified as a hate crime since the victim's religious beliefs and the desire to strip her of her religious rights served as the driving force behind the crime.
