Hindu woman lured into conversion by Muslim woman. Husband says accused lured his wife by offering money

Case Summary
A worker at a factory in Sarna Dungar has filed a report at Karni Vihar police station, accusing an NGO operator of holding his wife and three daughters hostage and attempting to convert their religion. Prem Kumar Saini, originally from Siwan, Bihar, stated that he lives with his wife Priyanshi and their three daughters in Green City, Sarna Dungar while working at a factory. His wife Priyanshi works for an NGO run by a woman named Nazia. On January 6, while Prem Kumar was at work, Nazia took his wife and three daughters to Kumbha Marg, Pratap Nagar. When Prem Kumar tried to contact Nazia by phone, she refused to meet him. His eldest daughter somehow managed to escape from Nazia Khan's room and informed him about the situation. Following this, Nazia reportedly instructed his wife to leave the three daughters at home and return to her. Priyanshi left the children and went back to Nazia. Prem Kumar alleged that Nazia lured his wife with promises of arranging good marriages for their daughters and offering money, with the intention of converting her religion.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the tracker under the category of- Predatory Proselytisation. Under this, the sub-category selected is- Conversion/attempts to convert by inducement. Predatory Proselytisation is not just limited to threat, harassment, force and violence, but it also has contours of stealth. In several cases, the Hindu victim is exploited to convert, with non-Hindus taking advantage of their poverty. In such cases, the Hindu victim who is suffering financially is offered monetary benefits, including lucrative offers for jobs, health treatment, education, etc, to induce the victim into changing his/her religion. In such cases, the religious identity of the victim and the aim to disenfranchise him from his faith form the heart of the crime. Also, taking advantage of and exploiting an individual’s economic vulnerabilities is widely acknowledged as exploitation, forms of which are often penalised by law. Such cases therefore are considered religiously motivated hate crimes since the victim’s religious identity forms the very heart of the crime itself. In this case, the victim's husband stated that the accused, Nazia Khan, attempted to lure his wife into abandoning her Hindu faith and adopting Islam by promising to arrange good marriages for their daughters and offering financial incentives. The use of such inducements is a well-documented tactic often employed to manipulate or coerce vulnerable individuals into changing their faith. These efforts frequently target economically disadvantaged groups, exploiting their hardships by offering material benefits such as money, food, or other resources in exchange for conversion. This creates a sense of dependency, where individuals feel pressured to convert not out of genuine conviction but due to immediate financial or social needs. Similarly, in this case, the accused used promises of financial and social security to exploit the victim's vulnerability, furthering an agenda of religious conversion. Since exploiting vulnerabilities for the explicit purpose of conversion is purely based on animosity towards the victim's faith, this case has been categorised as a religiously motivated hate crime.
