Cow rescued after police encounter with cow slaughterers, two Muslims arrested

Case Summary
Police engaged in an encounter with suspected cow slaughterers late at night in the Baragaon police station area of Saharanpur. Acting on a tip-off, the Baragaon station in-charge and his team rushed to the forests of village Baheda, where a group was reportedly preparing to slaughter cows. Upon reaching the spot, police found a live cow tied to a tree. As officers approached, the suspects opened fire from their hiding place and attempted to flee. In retaliation, police fired back, injuring and apprehending two individuals. They were identified as Shaukeen, a resident of Ambheta Sheikh in Thana Devband, and Shahjad alias Kala, a resident of Kutesara in Thana Charthaval, Muzaffarnagar. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. Police recovered a living cow, a bike, two pistols (315 bore), two empty cartridges, four live cartridges, and equipment used for cow slaughter at the scene.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
