Cow smugglers caught carrying remains of 70 cows, along with fresh beef in a vehicle

Case Summary
On Thursday late at night, cow protectors once again stopped a vehicle near Hardi, where they found remains of 70 cows, along with fresh beef. This vehicle had come from Khami Lormi in the Bilaspur district, heading towards Hardi in the Sirgitti police station area, loaded with cow meat. The accused claimed that the material was being sent to the factory of Mirage Fertilizers for supplying tallow. However, the documents presented were years old. The cow protectors alleged that beef is also being openly sold in local hotels. Large-scale cow smuggling and slaughter are taking place in Masturi Takhatpur Lormi, Ratanpur, and the surrounding areas. Moreover, cow bones are being used in the production of gelatin capsules, ice cream, and chocolates, which is hurting Hindu sentiments. The cow protectors handed over a written complaint to the SP, demanding strict action against every individual involved in cow smuggling and action at their respective locations. They also demanded an immediate shutdown of the Hardi godown situated on Bilaspur Raipur Road under the Bilaspur jurisdiction. Operating under the banner of the Sarv Hindu Samaj, the cow protectors warned of launching an agitation if their demands were not met. Hindu activist Vipul Sharma highlighted that despite Chhattisgarh having strict laws against cow slaughter, such practices continue to take place in various parts of the state.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
