Madhya Pradesh: Danish rapes teenage Hindu girl, keeps her captive inside house belonging to victim’s friend Kiran and her husband Tausif

Case Summary
In Shajapur district, Madhya Pradesh, a case involving the rape and confinement of a Hindu teenage girl surfaced. Danish, the main accused, raped the girl in a house owned by her friend Kiran and Kiran's husband, Tausif. The girl was also reportedly held captive in the house by the accused. When the victim’s family came to rescue her, the accused hurled stones at them and misbehaved with the police. The police registered an FIR against Danish, Kiran, Tausif, and Tausif’s brother. While Tausif and Kiran were arrested, Danish and Nikki remained at large. The incident took place on Qila Road, and on 12th August 2024, the 19-year-old girl filed a complaint. She stated that Danish had been hanging around her house for a while. After a confrontation with her father, she left for Kiran’s house, where Danish arrived. With Kiran and Tausif's help, the girl was locked in a room, where Danish raped her while they guarded the door. When the family found her, the accused resisted violently. The police eventually rescued the victim, and Hindu organizations gathered in protest, demanding strict action.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
There are strong suspicions of this case being a religiously motivated hate crime. In this case, a Hindu woman was held hostage in her Hindu friend's house by the friend's Muslim husband and his family. Further, the Muslim perpetrator and his family pelted stones at the family and the police when they arrived to rescue the Hindu victim. However, there is no statement on record either of the police, or the family members or the victim herself indicating a specific religious angle like religious slurs being hurled, an attempt to convert or the motivation being that of the religious identity of the victim.
