Shahrukh and accomplices beat Dinesh to death in Jaipur over minor traffic dispute
Case Summary
On August 16, 2024, in Jaipur’s Shastri Nagar area, a minor traffic dispute led to the death of a Hindu man, Dinesh Swami. Dinesh and his friend Jitendra were riding a scooter when they got into an argument with a group of Muslim youths in an e-rickshaw over overtaking. The situation quickly escalated, and Shahrukh Khan, one of the youths, along with his friends, assaulted Dinesh on the road. Dinesh’s condition worsened after he returned home, and he was taken to Kawatiya Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Outrage followed at the Shastri Nagar police station, where Dinesh’s family and supporters accused the police of negligence and demanded action. The police, led by Additional DCP (North) Bajrang Singh, arrested Shahrukh Khan and began a search for his accomplices. To prevent further violence, Section 144 was imposed in the area.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
Often, aggression against Hindus by Islamists starts as minor and innocuous fights. In this case, it started over minor traffic issues. But it soon escalated, leading to physical assault. The assault became so severe that the Hindu victim was eventually beaten to death by the Muslim perpetrators. However, in this specific case, there is no reported indication of the crime being a religiously motivated one. Therefore, it is being categorised as undecided. If more details emerge, it will be added to the hate crime database.
