Salman abducts, rapes, forcefully converts minor to Islam, arrested

Case Summary
Uttar Pradesh Police arrested Salman in Bareilly's Subhash Nagar area for abducting, raping, and forcibly converting a minor Hindu girl. The girl's parents had reported her missing, and investigations revealed that Salman had abducted her. After evading the police by moving between Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, Salman returned to Bareilly, believing the search for him had subsided. During the investigation, it was uncovered that Salman had forcibly married the girl, converted her to Islam, and changed her name to Mariyam. The girl confirmed she had been raped for two months and coerced into changing her religion. CO Sandeep Singh stated that Hindu organizations had pushed for action in the case. This was not Salman's first attempt at such a crime, as he had previously tried to kidnap the same girl, leading to an earlier complaint.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In several cases, a minor is groomed and brainwashed by non-Hindu perpetrators to later convert their religion. In many of these cases, the perpetrators claim that the victim provided her consent for the 'relationship' and the ensuing conversion of faith. However, minors, are brainwashed, and groomed to elope and convert, mostly to Islam, and are not legally capable of providing consent for conversion of faith. Also, it is the very definition of grooming that minors, who are easy to brainwash, are targeted specifically for the purpose of conversion of their religion, and because compared to adult women, manipulating minors is easier. Such victims are often profiled on the basis of their religion. Since conversion is the very basis of the targeting of minors, such crimes are being classified as religiously motivated hate crimes under this category. In this case, there is no element of coercing consent from the minor. The minor was abducted, raped and forced to convert to Islam by the Muslim perpetrator. He forced the minor girl to marry him and changed her religion to Islam. The victim in this case also confirmed that the perpetrator raped her and forcibly converted her to Islam.
