Case Summary
In Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, a Hindu girl committed suicide on 29th July after facing relentless harassment and threats from a Muslim youth, Mohammed Wasif Ansari. The girl, a B.Sc. student, was pressured by Wasif to convert to Islam and marry him. He threatened her with an acid attack if she refused and also warned that he would circulate an obscene video of her on social media. The victim's father, who works as a driver in Delhi, reported that Wasif had been harassing his daughter for some time, insisting that she convert and perform Nikah with him. Despite the girl's warnings to her family, they did not initially approach the police due to fear of defamation. Instead, the father confronted Wasif's family, but they dismissed his concerns and asserted that Wasif's marriage would only take place with the Hindu girl. On 29th July, driven to despair by Wasif's threats, including demands to marry him that same day, the girl hanged herself. Following her death, the girl's father filed a complaint, and on 3rd August, Mainpuri Police arrested Wasif after registering a case against him.
