Ayodhya: SP MP Awadhesh Prasad’s close aide Moeed Khan gangrapes minor Hindu girl
Case Summary
A case of gang rape surfaced in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, involving Samajwadi Party leader Moeed Khan and his servant Raju Khan. They raped a minor girl, recording the assault, and using the video to blackmail her into continued sexual exploitation for over two months. The crime came to light when the victim's health deteriorated, and she was found to be pregnant. The victim, from a laborer family, reported that Raju lured her to Moeed's bakery with the promise of food. Trusting him, she went to the shop, where both men raped her and recorded the incident. The police delayed filing an FIR for over 30 hours. The incident sparked outrage, with Hindu organizations and political workers gathering at the police station. Moeed Khan and Raju Khan were arrested, and an FIR was registered under gang rape and POCSO Act sections. The police also began investigating the legality of Khan’s bakery shop. The victim’s mother reported facing pressure to withdraw the case.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
It is often seen that minor Hindu girls are abducted and raped with the specific intention of grooming them to convert to Islam. In other cases, it has also been observed that the Muslim perpetrators target Hindu girls specifically owing to their animosity against the religious identity of the victim. In this case, however, there are no concrete indications that religious animosity played a role in the crime. It is therefore being categorised as undecided. If more information emerges, it will be added to the hate crime database.
