Haldwani: Auto driver Mohammad Nadeem arrested for raping a mentally weak minor Hindu girl, threatened to kill her

Case Summary
A minor Hindu girl in Uttarakhand's Haldwani was sexually assaulted by auto-driver Mohammad Nadeem. The victim, an 11th-class student at a reputed school, was waiting for an auto to attend music classes. The mentally weak victim protested Nadeem's actions but he threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident. The incident occurred on July 28, 2024, when the victim was waiting for an auto to attend music classes. Nadeem promised to drop her off at the classes, but instead took her to a secluded place near MB Inter College and sexually assaulted the victim. After committing the heinous act, he dropped the girl near Mangal Parao and fled. The victim narrated her ordeal to her family, who lodged a complaint with the police. CCTV footage and other evidence led to the arrest of Nadeem. An FIR was registered under Section 351 (2) (3), 64(2)k, 65(1) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3/4 of the POCSO Act. The incident sparked outrage among Hindu organizations in Haldwani, who demanded strict action against the auto-driver Nadeem.

It is often seen that minor Hindu girls are abducted and raped with the specific intention of grooming them to convert to Islam. In other cases, it has also been observed that the Muslim perpetrators target Hindu girls specifically owing to their animosity against the religious identity of the victim.
