Case Summary

The police in Hafizganj caught a wanted criminal, Kamil, during an encounter, while his accomplice, Salim, escaped after firing at the police. Kamil and his accomplices are involved in cow slaughter activities, including a recent incident in Bijamou village. Kamil, who has a reward of 25,000 rupees on his head, was injured in the exchange of fire. The police recovered a pistol, an empty cartridge, and two live cartridges from him. Kamil was taken to the Nawabganj Community Health Centre for treatment. The incident occurred when police officers, while conducting checks, tried to stop two suspicious youths on a bike. Salim, who was with Kamil, managed to flee and is being sought by the police.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorized as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
