Adnan threatens acid attack on Hindu girl for rejecting advances, brother Arshad attacks victim's family with iron rod

Case Summary
In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, an IT student and her family were forced to relocate due to ongoing harassment by a Muslim youth named Adnan. Despite moving to a new colony, Adnan continued to harass the victim, pressuring her to accept his advances. When the victim’s father and brother confronted Adnan at his home, they were attacked by Adnan’s brother, Arshad, with an iron rod. The victim had previously reported Adnan's harassment to her father after he stalked her, demanded her phone number, and threatened to throw acid on her when she refused. Although Adnan's father promised to stop his behaviour, Adnan continued to follow the victim, even tracking her to her new home. The harassment escalated when Adnan followed the victim to her coaching centre and forcibly held her hand. After the attack on her family, the victim’s relatives sought help from Bajrang Dal activists, who apprehended Adnan and Arshad and handed them over to the police. The police registered an FIR against the brothers under sections related to molestation and assault and are currently interrogating them.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
It is often seen that Muslim perpetrators select their victims for harassment based on the victim's religious identity. In this case, there was a strong suspicion that the harassment was based on religiously motivated hate given that even the family of the Hindu victim was assaulted not just by the perpetrator but by the perpetrator's family as well. However, there is no concrete indication reported which would make this case a religiously motivated one. Therefore, it is being categorised as undecided.
