Dalit nurse at Shifa Hospital dies under mysterious circumstances; family accuses Dr. Zubaid and his wife of poisoning her

In Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a Dalit girl working at Shifa Hospital died under suspicious circumstances, leading to suspicion of murder against the hospital's owners, Dr. Zubaid and his wife Junaiba. The incident occurred on July 5, and the victim's family filed a police complaint the following day, accusing the couple of poisoning the girl. The victim had been employed at the hospital for seven months. On July 6, the family was informed by the hospital that the girl's health had deteriorated. When they arrived, they found her unconscious, with her body reportedly showing signs of turning blue. The victim was rushed to a district hospital, where she was declared dead. The family suspects she was either given a poisonous injection or otherwise poisoned at Shifa Hospital. The family members also expressed fear of rape with the victim. The police registered an FIR against Dr. Zubaid, his wife, and other hospital employees under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS 2023). The post-mortem report did not determine the exact cause of death, and no injury marks were found on the body. A viscera sample has been preserved for further investigation. The Saharanpur unit of Bajrang Dal staged a protest, demanding strict action against the accused and an investigation into the hospital's operations. Bajrang Dal functionary Abhishek Pandit said the death was premeditated and vowed to pursue justice through both legal and public avenues.
